See Disneynature’s film Oceans and help save the oceans this Earth Day
Disney’s Friends for Change Campaign is taking green initiatives to the mouseketeer level. The Green for Change website offers young visitors tips on how to make a difference with eco-friendly behaviors, such as "make sure you and your parents only run the dishwasher with full loads" or "buy recycled paper notebooks."
The campaign tries to make energy efficiency kid-friendly and fun, with a range of activities that both educate and encourage children to adopt a green lifestyle at a young age. Now, an upcoming Dinseynature film will help children’s eco-education translate into a global environmental initiative.
In honor of Earth Day on April 22, Disney will attempt to get kids – and their parents – to theaters to see Disneynature’s first U.S. film Oceans in support of coral reef conservation, with proceeds going toward conservation efforts.
Oceans will offer viewers an inside look at the beauty of the underwater world and how marine life connects to human life. The film will feature a new song by Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato, "Make a Wave," and it will be narrated by actor and outspoken environmentalist Pierce Brosnan.
Through a partnership with the Nature Conservancy, Disney will donate a portion of each ticket sold during the first week of the movie’s theatrical release (April 22 – 28). The funds will go toward an Adopt-a-Coral-Reef program focusing on the Bahamas. The project aspires to save 500,000 acres of threatened coral reef – accounting for 30 percent of the reef in the Atlantic Ocean, according to Disney’s StichKingdom.com.
The Nature Conservancy reports that coral reef in the Bahamas suffer from pollution, overuse, poor enforcement laws and bleaching caused by climate change. Saving the coral reef in the Bahamas is a top priority as the organization predicts the coral reef in the Caribbean Sea could be gone in less than 50 years without conservation efforts.
So, parents, taking your children to see Oceans this Earth Day might help ensure that your grandchildren will experience the beauty of the natural reef.
