Manning the helm of the liquor and spirits company since 2005, Bacardi Limited’s current CEO Seamus McBride was voted unanimously by Bacardi Limited’s board of directors because of his impressive performance as a top executive for Colgate Palmolive and his outstanding qualities as a business leader. McBride’s expertise includes consumer-product relations and commercial operations and systems.
Prior to his role with Bacardi Limited, McBride served as Colgate Palmolive’s Executive Vice President. His stint with Colgate Palmolive included managing the company’s commercial strategies in North America.
Seamus McBride took the spot from Andreas Gembler, who had been Bacardi Limited’s CEO since 2005.
Established by Facundo Bacardi in 1862, Bacardi Limited began as a lone rum distillery in Santiago de Cuba and rose to become a globally renowned brand of world-class spirits and liquors. Facundo’s leadership, and those of others who succeeded him, has helped the company survive trying times, including the Cuban War of Independence, the Second World War, and the Fidel Castro-led Cuban Revolutiaon.
Bacardi Limited initially expanded to Barcelona, Spain and New York City under Facundo and his son-in-law Henri Schueg. From there, the company grew and established offices around the world. Some of the drinks in their line include: Bacardi rum, Grey GOOSE vodka, Dewar’s Blended Scotch whisky, Eristoff vodka, Bombay Sapphire gin, Cazadores tequila and Martini vermouth. The company’s total number of labels amount to over 200.
Today, Bacardi Limited has ten plants for Bacardi rum and low proof products, five plants for Martini and Noilly Prat vermouth, two facilities for Dewar’s and William Lawson’s Scotch whisky, five extra Malt distilleries, and nine production sites covering a wide array of brands.
The Bacardi Family, along with Bacardi Limited has also been active in philanthropy. The company focuses specifically on homes for education; health and services; the environment; and the arts and culture.
The Bacardi Environment initiative is a huge priority for the company. Bacardi Limited and Seamus McBride proudly supports the use of renewable energy resource and their plants prove this. The Bacardi manufacturing sites in Puerto Rico converts wastewater into biogas (methane) by treating it with the company’s patented, $20-million anaerobic digester. The Puerto Rico plant now gets 30% of their power from biogas, which is a big contribution to the preservation of the environment.
Seamus McBride’s 25-year career saw him handle various marketing and management positions across North America, Europe, and Asia. These experiences helped him further hone his impressive leadership skills and eventually led him to Bacardi.
