SC Johnson leading the way to a greener environment

SC Johnson is a world-renowned family business that is owned and managed for more than 120 years now by five generations of the Johnson Family. The company is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of household products, including insect control and auto care. SC Johnson is the largest and oldest of the Johnson Family Enterprises, which include JohnsonDiversey Inc., Johnson Outdoors Inc., and Johnson Financial Group. The company has lifelong commitments to continually manufacture and market groundbreaking superior household products, provide an excellent and conducive workplace for employees, and minimize its footprint on the environment in all aspects of its operations.

A BRIEF HISTORY

In 1886, Samuel Curtis Johnson acquired the parquet flooring business of Racine Hardware Company and renamed it as Johnson’s Prepared Paste Wax Company. By 1914, its first international subsidiary was established in Britain, and then another one was established in Australia by 1917. Still another one was established in Canada in 1920.

In 1956, the company launched Glade® scents, used for eliminating unpleasant odors in households. In 1975, the company globally eradicated the use of CFCs from its aerosol products, three years before the U.S. mandated it. In 1993, SC Johnson introduced brands including Windex®, Drano® and Vanish®. In 1990, the company began its ten-year run of being named among the “Best 100 Companies for Working Mothers”. In 1998, the company introduced another set of brands including Ziploc®, Saran Wrap® and Fantastik®. Today, the company is still owned and ran by the same family that founded it.

At present, SC Johnson creates and markets popular brands such as Saran® and Ziploc® for home storage, Drano®, Shout®, Scrubbing Bubbles®, Pledge®, Fantastik®, Vanish®, Mr. Muscle®, Toilet Duck® and Windex® for household cleaning, Edge® and Skintimate® for shave preparations, Glade® and Glade Candel Scents®, Bayfresh® and Oust Small Space® for air care, Off® and Raid® and Baygon® for insect control, and Tempo® for auto care.
