Is Global Cooling a Possibility?

Global warming theories are being challenged by Britain’s big freeze. Scientists claim that this could mark a worldwide trend towards colder weather. The world has entered a period being termed “cold mode”, which is likely to cause a global drop in temperatures that could last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, scientists have stated. Both winters and summers are expected to be cooler than previous years, causing global warming to be at least “paused” if not reversed.

Scientists’ predictions are based on analysis of natural cycles of water in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The studies were developed by respected climate scientists and have not been dismissed by environmentalists as “global warming deniers”. Some experts believe that it is not human pollution, but rather these measured cycles that account for the changes in world temperatures during the 20th century.

If the research and predictions are true, then the science behind global warming theories and the political calls to action will be challenged if not halted entirely.

The U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center in Colorado confirms these findings by claiming that the raise in temperatures across the globe since 1900 is due to natural oceanic cycles rather than man-made greenhouse gases. The warming occurred because the earth was in “warm mode”. The warming would have happened regardless of rising carbon dioxide production.

Not it appears that oceanic cycles have switched and are operating in a “cold mode”, and data indicates that Arctic summer sea ice has increased by more than a quarter since 2007. This research has been carried out by prominent climate scientists including Professor Mojib Latif. Latif and his colleagues predicted a cooling trend as far back as 2008 as it was introduced in a paper. The group conveyed this message again at an IPCC conference in Geneva last September. Latif has developed methods for measuring ocean temperatures at 3,000 feet under the surface, where the cooling and warming cycles begin.

Latif claims that the warming that occurred from 1980 to 2000 was a result of these cycles. Now that the cycles have gone into reverse, deep-freeze winters will be more likely. It’s possible that this could last for two decades or more. It is predicted that the changes we have seen in glaciers will slow or come to a halt in a time where global warming has paused.
