India Embraces the Environmental Imperative

The people of India are now making themselves a part of the global green challenge. Indian brands are starting to consider the green revolution as a business imperative. These concerned Indian brands are beginning to introduce green products and are taking the necessary measures to minimize energy consumption and reduce costs.

MRF, India’s largest tire company, launched a new eco-friendly, tubeless rubber tire designed to lower fuel consumption and minimize rolling resistance. Aside from the MRF tire company, the major automobile manufacturer, Bajaj Auto, recently installed a wind power generation unit in each of its three factories. The wind power generation units enable the company to conserve energy, as well as save an estimated $5.9 million each year. Additionally, Asia’s first ever eco-friendly five star hotel, the Orchid Ecotel Hotel, has managed to provide quality service while remaining conscious of its efforts to conserve natural resources.

Among other large countries, India has been one of the lowest intensity producers of CO2. Despite being a developing country with a large population, India has shown increasing signs of receptiveness towards the worldwide environmental revolution. A survey conducted by the Pew Research Center revealed that an estimated 65% of India’s total population is indeed concerned about global warming.

A great number of Indian consumers are interested in making more eco-friendly decisions. However, several of them aren’t sure how to make these choices. This is why Indian brands must make an effort to raise consumer awareness. By adopting the green imperative and by investing in consumer education and in greener initiatives, these Indian brands can successfully increase environmental awareness and might even create a market for green products.

Apart from India, several regions in the United States and United Kingdom have also taken part in the green movement. Consumers in these areas are beginning to take responsibility in making more eco-friendly choices.
