Earth friendly cars

Mankind’s growing consciousness about the Earth has spawned an equally popular contention that old-fashioned internal combustion engine-based automobiles and vehicles should soon be replaced by cars that have lesser or no emissions. Because of this, several entities have begun to investigate the possibility of using alternative fuels in automobiles.

One of the technologies being considered as an alternative to petrol fuels would be hydrogen fuel cells. Although at its early stages, hydrogen fuel cell technology is slowly but gradually making progress in terms of being an efficient fuel source for cars. One of the advantages of using hydrogen as fuel is the fact that hydrogen’s “waste” product is water. Moreover, some hydrogen fuel cell systems that incorporate magnesium compounds in them also make sure that practically all of the residue of the said material is reusable; recent prototypes have reported that such magnesium compounds in hydrogen fuel cell systems are 99.8% recyclable. However, this technology might not be seen in the market in the near future, as hydrogen fuel cell systems have yet to be perfected to be efficient enough for consumer use. While it really looks good on paper, I still think that it has a long way to go before it gets accepted by the motoring populace in general.

Nevertheless, I find it very relieving that several environment-friendly options are already available for a person who’s considering an alternative to petrol-based transport vehicles. Moreover, these environment-friendly cars also often translate to lesser spending of petrol since they are more efficient in using such fuels. Hybrid cars are already being introduced to the market at the moment as a new and efficient means of transportation, but such models also create a buy-in for environment-savvy motorists because of the lesser emissions it creates.

These cars operate using a combination of two fuel systems, as the name implies. These hybrid cars still feature a petrol-based engine but unlike regular cars, these hybrid vehicles consume lesser fuel, particularly during acceleration or uphill drives. This is made possible by the fact that a battery-powered electric motor is automatically engaged when one encounters such situations. This means that the car doesn’t need to take in more gas to generate more torque and/or speed.

At the moment, these cars are priced at relatively higher rates than regular cars. The initial cost usually turns off a lot of potential customers. The cost may seem staggering at the moment, but I personally think that spending such an amount is paramount to investing in the future. First, by using cars that use less fuel, the expenditure on petrol will definitely translate to more savings for the motorist. Secondly, investing in cars that have lesser emissions ensures that the car doesn’t add much to the damage that the Earth’s atmosphere already has.
