Recently, a well explosion during an oil drill resulted in a spill that gave the waters of the Gulf Coast a dark and ominous look. These black waves also leave an ominous outlook for the marine life living in these darkened waters.

Anyone who has seen the Dawn dish detergent commercials that show volunteers helping to clean animals affected by oil spills has seen the hardships endured by little sea creatures. At the same time, they have seen how a simple household product can make a big difference in wildlife conservation efforts – tiny bottle, mighty clean, as the Dawn slogan goes.

Dawn donates thousands of bottles of dishwashing liquid to wildlife organizations. This simple dish soap has helped save more than 75,000 animals in the past 30 years.

Now, Dawn is starting a campaign that asks consumers to become an "Everyday Wildlife Champion." When people buy a Dawn product, they can go online and redeem a donor code. Dawn will then donate one dollar to its wildlife conservation partners – the Marine Mammal Center and the International Bird Rescue Center.

The company also lets environmentalists and animal lovers check out their Facebook fan page to find out about activities in their neighborhoods so they can go beyond the Dawn dollars and donate their time to help recover wildlife.

But even if you don’t have time to take part in giving animals in need a sudsy bath, you can do your part simply by purchasing your next bottle of dish soap.

With the New York Times reporting that the recent oil spill in the Gulf Coast is currently being cleaned with chemicals that could be more harmful for sea animals than the oil itself, funds for preserving wildlife may be needed at the moment.
