CEMEX USA is a global building materials company that prides itself with its high quality products and its commitment to customers. The company has a history of pursuing innovative solutions to promote both efficiency and environmental sustainability.
On March 18, 2010, CEMEX, who has been an ENERGY STAR partner since 2004, was named Partner of the Year for its outstanding commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions as well as its energy management strategies. The company’s commitment to saving energy throughout its entire organization resulted not only in energy savings, but significant financial savings as well. The 2010 Partner of the Year Awards aim to recognize outstanding achievements in energy efficient facilities as well as energy management throughout the overall organization.
As a result of its Energy Management Program, created using ENERGY STAR guidelines, CEMEX USA was able to reduce its energy intensity by 2.2 percent. They achieved this accomplishment by making significant changes to how the company operates. They commissioned two new cement lines using vertical roller mills “for finish grinding, replacing and repairing compressed air systems,” and swapping out their old plant lighting for more eco-friendly lighting systems. Their energy savings is approximately equal to avoiding emissions from over 19,000 vehicles.
CEMEX’s environmental programs have resulted in numerous local and national awards for their commitment to energy conservation and sustainable manufacturing practices. The company has its own Energy Management Program, a Corporate Energy Management Team, and a Site Energy Team at every plant. They have received several ENERGY STAR certifications for their improvement in energy efficiency and their dedication to the environment.
In 2009, the American people, with the help of ENERGY STAR appliances, were able to save about $17 billion in energy bills. In addition to this, greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 20 million vehicles were offset.
