Bacardi Brands
Bacardi Limited has expanded its Bacardi Cuban Rum brand into a wide collection of the finest spirits by making several acquisitions over the years. In fact, Bacardi Limited currently has more than 200 brands and labels that continue to cater to millions of liquor lovers around the globe. Besides the famous Bacardi rum, the company’s brands include Martini Vermouth and Martini sparkling wines, Bombay Sapphire gin, Dewar’s Blended Scotch whisky, Cazadores tequila, Grey Goose vodka, 42 Below vodka, Eristoff vodka, Otard cognac brands, B&B and Benedictine liqueur brands.
Founding of the Brand
The history of Bacardi Limited dates back to 1830 when Facundo Bacardi Masso emigrated from Spain to Cuba. While working at a local distillery, Facundo Bacardi Masso experimented on improving the quality of rum, which at that time was poorly made and not thoroughly refined. He revolutionized the process of rum production by filtering it through charcoal and aging it in oak barrels, thus making the world’s first clear rum. On February 4, 1862, Facundo Bacardi Masso, his brother Jose, and a French wine merchant, bought a distillery in Santiago de Cuba. The building was found to have fruit bats dwelling in the attic space. Later, the company decided to adopt a logo after the flying mammals.
Bacardi Environmental Initiatives
Bacardi and Environmental initiatives are synonymous. Bacardi is environmentally conscious in the performance of its operations. The Bacardi Foundation was created in 1994 to ensure the protection of the environment. The foundation works with different environmental groups in providing education and facilitating grassroots programs to help preserve and conserve “environmentally sensitive and unique” coastal and recreational waters and beaches.
In 1995, Bacardi Foundation and the Stockholm Water Foundation established a professorship in water resources, science, and engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, upon which the Bacardi Foundation endowed a $2 million grant. In the same year, Dr. Michael Szendry developed a wastewater treatment system in Puerto Rico, which was the first anaerobic digester that converted methane into fuel producing steam. Because of this, he was granted an honor from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
In 2008, Bacardi Limited donated $150,000 to the Bahamas National Trust, particularly intended to support the Harrold and Wilson Pond National Park in the improvement of its facilities.
