Bacardi takes another step towards green
Bacardi Americas has officially opened its new headquarters in Coral Gables, Florida. The move is a leap towards building an efficient and eco-friendly future for the family owned spirits company. The new office consolidates approximately 300 employees who were previously spread throughout seven separate buildings. The site opened on Thursday, February 4, prompting Coral Gables Mayor, Don Slesnick, to officially declare that date “Bacardi Day”.
The move has resulted in a reduction in corporate travel, helping Bacardi to achieve their green mission. Apart from this achievement, the building itself is designed to be safe and environmentally friendly, focusing on the following areas: water efficiency, energy use, heat island reduction, protecting greenfields, alternative transportation, and indoor environmental quality. Bacardi aims to have the building certified under The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating system.
Bacardi has been working towards becoming a more eco-friendly company for quite some time. Last August, Bacardi Canada opted to convert from glass bottles to PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic recyclable bottles for its Bacardi Breezer beverages. PET containers are readily recyclable and studies from the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) have concluded that PET containers can reduce waste by more than ninety percent. Bacardi’s move towards PET bottles has elicited a positive response from consumers as well as government entities.
Bacardi Americas, Bacardi Canada, and the entire Bacardi Family has jumped on the eco-friendly corporate bandwagon, joining other leaders in an effort to protect our planet.
