Anheuser-Busch Inc. is the largest brewing company in the United States, holding a 48.8% share of beer sales. In 2007, the company had an international beer sales volume of 128.4 million barrels. The company, which has its world headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, operates 12 breweries in the United States. Internationally, it operates 14 breweries in China and one in the United Kingdom. Anheuser-Busch, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev.

Company Brands

Anheuser-Busch, Inc. has a remarkable portfolio of brands and products. Its renowned beers include brands such as the Budweiser family, including Budweiser and Bud Light; the Michelob family, including Michelob and Michelob Light; the Busch family; and the Natural family. The company also manufactures and markets other products such as malt liquors; nonalcoholic brews such as Hurricane Malt Liquor, Hurricane Ice, and King Cobra; flavored malt beverages such as Tequiza and Bacardi Silver; and smaller-volume and specialty beers.

History

In 1852, George Schneider established a Bavarian brewery in St. Louis, Missouri, which was then acquired in 1860 by Eberhard Anheuser and renamed Anheuser & Co. In 1864, Eberhard Anheuser’s son-in-law Adolphus Busch joined the company. In 1876, Budweiser was introduced and by 1879, the company’s name was changed to Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association. When Eberhard Anheuser died in 1880, Adolphus Busch took over as president. The company was the first brewer in the United States to use pasteurization in keeping beer fresh. It also pioneered the use of artificial refrigeration and refrigerated railroad cars. Anheuser-Busch, Inc. was also the first to expansively bottle beer.

Environmental Efforts

Anheuser-Busch, Inc. consistently strives to go green in its operations without having to compromise the quality of its products. For example, the company currently utilizes the process of Bio-Energy Recovery Systems (BERS) technology that involves reclaiming leftover water from the brewing process to generate renewable energy. This renewable energy is able to power up to 15% of the fuel for its brewery in China as well as nine of its breweries in the United States.

Moreover, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. has been carrying out a good number of environmental initiatives that benefit various communities. For example, Anheuser-Busch partnered with Bacardi in their environmental initiatives.The company founded Keep America Beautiful Inc. (KAB), a group that works to facilitate anti-litter programs, educate people about proper waste-handling practices, and promote recycling and beautification efforts. Another company initiative is the establishment of the Anheuser-Busch Adventure Parks and the Sea World & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund, both of which work to protect threatened and endangered wildlife and habitats around the globe.
